This is my second set of these tires - the last set endured through Boston and NYC year-round fixie riding for years. I got ONE flat tire with my last set, and the culprit was a half inch industrial staple that I rode over just right. Even with that, I've ridden on them for another 6 months with no issue, and a small interior patch. I figured it's time to replace them for the coming winter, but who knows how much longer they would have lasted. A great product.
These are very well designed and constructed tires. The tread pattern and material provides great traction and durability. Two years and a couple thousand miles into my first set, my front tire got sliced by an object on the road; good thing I had bought a back-up set the week before. I also like the look brought by the Fyxation "Track Grips" that bring a matching pattern and similar durability to the handlebars.
This is my second pair of these tires. My first pair lasted for over three years, and finally became too worn down. I shopped around for a comparable tire but landed again on this one. Has held up well so far and I hope it will continue to!
I found out very quickly that puncture protection in your tires is imperative riding in a city like New York, and have tried several different varieties, from gatorskins to smaller local brands. These are by far the lightest. They have less kevlar in them, but it's the perfect amount to prevent flats without adding too much weight. Another big difference between these and specifically gatorskins is the grip, gatorskines feel very hard and don't seem to grip the ground, these feel more like standard rubber tires and really grip the ground. One thing I will mention is I put these on a standard geared road bike with breaks, and I noticed it tends to sort of skid out a little quicker when you break fast, probably as that's how fixie riders are used to stopping. That has actually happened less and less since I started riding it, maybe I've gotten used to it or maybe that was just from them being too fresh. My final note is about the appearance of these tires: gorgeous. The perfect final touch on my bianchi with a white seat and bar tape, my bike looks like a work of art finished with these. I mean people just stop walking and race up to catch me just to look at this thing. I cannot imagine buying any other tire in the future.
I first bought these tires for my girlfriend. They were a gift I paired with a custom red wheel set. Not only do they look dope, there tuff as nails! Nothing is more important in my opinion. After I discovered them I had to have a pair for myself. I ordered a pair, and left them in the box for a couple months while I waited to buy a new wheel set. Turned out I ordered the all black by mistake.. I wanted the DC white, when I asked if they would still take them back, they said no problem. Not only that, they allowed me to get the color I wanted at the same sale price I paid fo the all black 2 months earlier! These guys are killin it on customer service.
