Fat Bike Wheel Spacing

Location Spacing & Axle Type Explanation
Front (Fork) 150mm Quick Release (QR) Uses a 9mm quick-release axle with 150mm fork spacing. Common on older and some current fat bike forks.
Front (Fork) 15 × 150mm Thru Axle Uses a 15mm thru axle with 150mm fork spacing. Stiffer and more precise than QR.
Rear (Frame) 170mm or 190mm Quick Release (QR) Uses a 10mm quick-release axle with either 170mm or 190mm rear frame spacing.
Rear (Frame) 12 × 197mm Thru Axle Uses a 12mm thru axle with 197mm rear frame spacing. This is the modern fat bike rear standard.

Fat Bike Hub Driver Standards

Freehub Driver Compatibility
SRAM XD freehub body Shimano HG Fits Shimano 8–11 speed MTB cassettes and most SRAM MTB cassettes. Not compatible with XD-only cassettes.
SRAM XD freehub body SRAM XD Fits SRAM 11–12 speed XD cassettes with a 10-tooth small cog. Not compatible with Shimano HG cassettes.
Shimano Micro Spline freehub body Shimano Micro Spline Fits Shimano 12-speed MTB cassettes. Required for Shimano cassettes with a 10-tooth small cog.
