Fyxation Open Fixed Gear Street Criterium Returns To Midwest As Four Race Series

Milwaukee, WI – March 9th, 2016 – Fyxation, a Milwaukee based bicycle and parts manufacturer announced today the return of the Fyxation Open Fixed Gear Street Criterium to the Midwest.  Due to the overwhelming success of the first two years of racing, this year’s race has been expanded into a four race series that will take place in Illinois and Wisconsin. This will be the largest fixed gear only street race in the Midwest and races will be held in conjunction with the successful Tour of America’s Dairyland (TOAD) in Milwaukee and the popular Prairie State Cycling Series Intelligentsia Cup in the Chicagoland area.

Fixed gear street criteriums have gained in popularity over the last few years due to exciting nature of these events.  Offering the perfect blend of velodrome style track racing and closed course road criteriums, the Fyxation Open is an event expected to draw thousands of spectators and introduce proper fixed gear criterium racing to the Midwest.  Held in conjunction with the Tour of America’s Dairyland and the Prairie State Cycling Series, races will take place on the same course as the day’s road criterium races and fixed gear riders will receive the same use of the pace car and event officials as the road competitors.  Each day of racing includes both a men’s and women’s field with equal cash and prizes being awarded to each group of riders. Points will also be awarded at each event and at the end of the 4 race series, a men’s and women’s champion will be crowned.

The races will be held in the Milwaukee area on June 24th at the Bay View Classic and June 25th at the Downer Classic.  The June 25th event at Downer will be hosted by local bike shop Ben’s Cycles, and the Ben’s Cycles Cream City Classic will count towards the Fyxation Open points series.

The events in Chicago take place 1 month later on July 25th at the Lake Bluff Criterium and June 26th for the third year at the Chicago Criterium in the heart of the city.   This will be a true fixed gear criterium and only racers riding fixed gear bikes with no brakes and drop bars will be eligible to compete.  Space is available on a first come first serve basis and registration is now open through USA Cycling - https://www.usacycling.org/register/

Nick Ginster, co-founder and general manager of Fyxation was quoted as saying, "We are pleased to announce that the Fyxation Open is now a 4 race points series and the only race of its kind in the Midwest.  Due to the overwhelming success of the past 2 years, we’ve worked closely with the Tour of America’s Dairyland and the Intelligentsia Cup to bring our local area 4 days of exciting racing.  Each year that we’ve held The Fyxation Open the level of riders continues to improve and we’ve seen riders from all over the Midwest come to participate. This year we’ve already fielded questions from international riders so we feel that this year’s events will be the most exciting yet. With the addition of two races in our home market of Milwaukee, we are excited to introduce our local area to what we feel is one of the most exciting events taking place in cycling today."
