I was looking for a big pedal platform, lots of grip, and as much control as I could get for riding fixed. This setup delivers it all and feels great!
Loving these pedals and straps. I'm a pure terror (at least on the downhill) blasting across Princeton's campus to the pool on may single speed bike with these pedals!
I just started riding again after a few years off. Not comfortable with my old clipless pedals, I was so glad to discover Fyxation. I bought the Mesa kit for my Trek roadbike. pedals and straps are super high quality. Smart design.
As a 20 yr clips user I am very pleased with the Fyxation platform and straps. I have to use them in their widest setting but they have only come apart once in 100 miles. I think one can pull up on clips a bit more but these are fine. I like being able to use them with trail runners. Highly recommended.
I needed a set of platform pedals with some sort of foot retention to use with a high performance pedal/prop drive watercraft (WaveWalker Excursion) for trips to offshore islands in our Maine ocean environment. The pedals had to offer suitable support for rubber soled boating footwear (bike shoes w/cleats being ridiculously impractical), sealed bearings, and substantial corrosion resistance. I looked at absolutely everything I could find online, and only one other, at an obscene price, which had an aluminum body and titanium axles for additional corrosion resistance, seemed to be a match for the Mesa pedal, and frankly the nylon body of the Mesa might be more suited to saltwater. The Gates straps use stainless hardware, unlike other pedal straps, and that was essential. After a season on the water, I'm quite happy with my choice. I've never used this type of foot retention system before, but the pedal platform with the straps proved quite efficient, and so far the bearings have stood up to the saltwater spray, the Cro-Moly axles remain rust free (I always rinse everything in fresh water after a day's outing), and I'm looking forward to next summer.
